Duncan Lechesa is set to join Marumo Gallants as an assistant coach. The former Venda Football Club (VFC) coach resigned from the club with immediate effect.

Rowan Hendricks, a former Cape Town Spurs attacker, has been appointed as VFC’s interim coach. Lechesa joined VFC in November 2023, taking over from Joel Masutha.

Under Lechesa’s guidance, VFC occupied 15th place in the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings after a winless start. Lechesa is expected to be announced as an assistant coach to Dan Malesela at Marumo Gallants.

Lechesa has a wealth of coaching experience, having previously coached professional teams such as Polokwane City, Free State Stars, Bloemfontein Celtic, Royal Eagles, Mthatha Bucks and FC Cape Town. He played a crucial role in promoting Polokwane City to the Betway Premiership as a co-coach with Phuthi Mohafe at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Lechesa is set to be on the bench for Gallants’ match against Golden Arrows at Mpumalanga Stadium on Saturday (15:00). Gallants head to that game having suffered a loss to Kaizer Chiefs this past weekend.
