Life After Football Is Hard On Gabuza
Is former Orlando Pirates striker Thami Gabuza struggling to cope having been clubless for months now?
The 37-year-old posted on his social media account with a caption: “Life after football is hard. I want to start a business but will you guys support me?”
People flooded his account with memes, but it is clear Gabuza is toying with the idea of whether to call it a quit or still pursue his football career.
Gabuza last played competitively in November 2023, when Galaxy lost to Moroka Swallows.
He is currently unattached at the moment after failing to get a contract with Durban City in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, where he was deemed not fit enough for the rigours of the league to bounce back into the top flight.
The former Bafana Bafana striker was trying to resuscitate his career after TS Galaxy released him in the second half of last season when coach Sead Ramovic’s demands appeared too big for him.
He joined Galaxy at the start of the 2023/24 season after leaving SuperSport United, where he spent four seasons.
He joined SuperSport ahead of the 2019/20 season from Pirates and made an immediate impact, winning the MTN8 in his first season against Highlands Park. Gabuza was named the man of the match in the final.
This after Gabuza enjoyed a successful six-year spell at Pirates, winning the Nedbank Cup in 2014 and reaching multiple cup finals.
The veteran striker will also be remembered when Pirates beat Al Ahly in the semi-final of the CAF Confederation Cup second leg in 2013, scoring in the 4-3 victory in Suez.
The Cairo giants were knocked out by 5-3 and Pirates reached the final, only to lose 2-1 on aggregate to Etoile du Sahel under coach Eric Tinkler.
