Nabi Warns Fans: Let’s Not Celebrate Yet

Despite securing two consecutive victories in the Betway Premiership, Kaizer Chiefs’ coach, Nasreddine Nabi, remains grounded.

Chiefs beat AmaZulu in a swashbuckling display in the first half by scoring three unanswered goals before conceding in the second half to emerge 3-1 victorious at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday.

It was Chiefs’ second win of the trot having started the campaign with a come-from-behind victory against Marumo Gallants.

While they have won these matches, Nabi came to the side that failed to make the top eight last season, finishing 10th in the league table, which led to the Tunisian international coach being roped in to change things around.

Chiefs also signed Rushwin Dortley, Inacio Miguel, Fiacre Ntwari, Njabulo blom, Bradley Cross, Bongani Sam and Gaston Sirino with the aim improve things this term.

Bar Sam, who is injured at the moment, the rest of these new players featured as they beat Usuthu at the full to capacity Moses Mabhida Stadium, in what was the second game Chiefs have played in front of the sold-out arena.

“We know that Kaizer Chiefs was not supposed to be in the last years,” said Nabi.

“So, we know that we have a lot of work to do along with higher expectations. But at the same time, we still need time and we don’t know how much time, but we know where we want to be. We want to be at the very top.

“The future is very bright; it is just that we need a lot work to do to reach the level that is required. It is realistic, not scientific and we need to reach these goals.

“But I need right the time and I’m not making any excuses.”

The upcoming match against Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium on Saturday (15:00) presents a significant challenge. Nabi expressed concern about the timing of the game, given Sundowns’ extra day of rest whilst they only have one day to prepare this game on Friday as they traveled from Durban to Jozi on Thursday sandwiched with a recovery session. However, he assured fans that his team would be prepared to give their best because this is a big game.

Despite winning these two games successes, Chiefs face a daunting task against Sundowns. They haven’t defeated the defending champions at FNB Stadium since April 2021, and Sundowns has also won the first two games to sit top of the Betway Premiership table.
