Mabhida To Host Another Big Game
Another major football match is scheduled to take place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium during this FIFA international break.
The Lesotho Football Association has once again decided to host Dikwena’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Gabon at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday next week.
Due to a CAF and FIFA ban on hosting home matches at Setsoto Stadium in Maseru due to its failure to meet continental and international football standards, Lesotho has been forced to play their home games at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Lesotho will face Gabon at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday, having suffered defeats in both their September matches in the AFCON qualifiers. They lost 3-1 to the Central African Republic and were also defeated by Morocco away at Stade d’Agadir, having taken that match to the Moroccan counterparts.
As this Lesotho-Gabon match is a double-header, Gabon will host Lesotho first at Stade de Franceville on Friday.
This will be Lesotho’s third match played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in less than a year. They previously hosted Benin, where they drew, in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers before losing to Rwanda 1-0 in Group C in November last year.
The group also includes Bafana Bafana, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe.
The Moses Mabhida Stadium is one of the busiest stadiums in the PSL, serving as the home ground for Betway Premiership side AmaZulu and host cup finals domestically. Kaizer Chiefs will also play a few matches at the venue this season.
This past weekend, the stadium hosted its 10th MTN8 final, more than any other stadium, which was won by Orlando Pirates against Stellenbosch. It has been a popular venue for domestic football since its opening for use after the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
