Mayo Finally Arrives At Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs have finally welcomed star striker Khanyisa Mayo to Naturena, their headquarters.

The club secured Mayo’s signature last week, but the player was finalizing his documentation in Algeria with his former club, CR Belouizdad.

Mayo had a successful spell with the Algerian side, scoring six goals and providing one assist in 41 appearances last season after joining from Cape Town City.

Despite a contract that was set to run until 2027, both the club and player agreed to an early departure as Mayo was not part of coach Sead Ramovic’s future plans.

A Return to a Familiar Legacy

The move marks a return to a familiar environment for Mayo, whose father, Patrick Mayo, was also a fan favorite at Chiefs. Patrick Mayo won two league titles with the Soweto Giants, playing both as a forward and later as a defender.

Chiefs have had a long-standing interest in the striker, having attempted to sign him before his move to Algeria. Now, they have finally secured their target.

Mayo joins a Chiefs side that has been highly active in the transfer market and is currently second in the league table with 13 points from five matches.

In his eight career matches against Chiefs, Mayo has scored only once—in the 2023/24 season when his former team, Cape Town City, upset Chiefs at FNB Stadium.
