Mngqithi Unhappy Despite The Thumping Victory Over Chiefs

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has revealed that he was not happy with the quality of football against Kaizer Chiefs because they didn’t give them a tough game.
The Brazilians crushed Amakhosi 4-0 at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinal of the Carling Knockout. Iqraam Rayners scored a brace while Peter Shalulile and Khuliso Mudau scored the other two goals.
Mngqithi’s side has advanced to the semi-finals, joining the KZN-based side Richards Bay who defeated Cape Town City on penalties at King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.
Chiefs join their neighbours Orlando Pirates who were eliminated in the last 16 against Magesi.
“To be honest, I’m not thinking it was one of those matches that you would say it’s a cutting edge in terms of the resistance that we got,” Mngqithi said in a press conference.
“I don’t think the resistance was strong as we thought [it will be]. It will fool you sometimes [and think you are doing well] when you create so many chances [against a team that is not playing well].
“I think the level of the game did not reach my expectations. I’m coming out of the game a very unhappy person.”
The Umzimkhulu-born tactician continued with his disappointment. “I would not rank this match very high in terms of the quality football that was played. I’m just happy that the team dominated the game, but I expected a little bit more.”
Sundowns will know their opponent in the semi-finals of this competition on Sunday afternoon.
The draw will be conducted after the two matches scheduled to take place between Marumo Gallants against the defending champions of this competition, Stellenbosch at Dr Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein. The last game of the day will be at Mbombela Stadium between TS Galaxy and Magesi.
