Mokwena Condemns Missile Throwing In Classico

Wydad Athletic Club coach Rulani Mokwena was left unimpressed after things got heated when ASFAR supporters threw stones at his players at full-time following a 2-2 draw between the two sides in the Classico on Thursday.
Mokwena’s men missed the chance to move up to second on the log standings after they went to the break leading 2-1 thanks to goals from Oussama Zemraoui and Mohamed Rayhi before Youssef El Fahli leveled matters in the second half.
The Red Castle was reduced to 10 men after former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Abdelmounaim Boutil was given his marching orders while on the other hand, Cassius Mailula helped himself to another assist.
After the match, Mokwena voiced his displeasure at the shocking events as he took one of the stones to his post-match press conference. Furthermore, the 37-year-old tactician took to social media to express his concern while assuring that he was still committed to the project at Wydad.
“We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your steadfast support and unwavering dedication. Your passion and loyalty to the team continue to inspire us and your spirit pushes us daily, ” Mokwena wrote.
“While we acknowledge the disappointment and frustration stemming from the recent match, we share in those feelings with you. Our team displayed relentless effort on the field despite facing challenges, and sometimes the outcome and some events may not accurately reflect our commitment and spirit but mistakes are part of the game, as they are in life, and it is through overcoming them that we evolve, both as professionals and individuals.
“Every member of our team consistently demonstrates their dedication and pride in representing this esteemed football club. Despite the obstacles faced, they consistently give their all, and for this, we are incredibly proud of them and encourage your continued support.
“We recognize the challenges of the past two years and the toll it has taken on all of us. Rest assured, we are working tirelessly to restore our team and strive for the success we all aspire to achieve. Now, more than ever, unity is essential – for players and fans alike.
“Your unwavering support, love, and encouragement serve as the driving force propelling us to overcome adversities and emerge stronger together. Let us remain focused on the common goal of elevating our club to greater heights.
“Thank you for being the most exceptional fans in the world. Your passion and dedication do not go unnoticed. Let us stand united behind all our players and continue to exhibit to the world the true essence of solidarity and support, only you as winners can truly do. With profound gratitude and love, let the Wydad spirit prevail, ” he concluded.
