Mokwena, Kwayiba, Tiwani Claim DStv Premiership Monthly Gongs

Chippa United forward Sinoxolo Kwayiba, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena and Sekhukhune United left-back Asekho Tiwani, have been named the DStv Premiership Player of the Month for April.

Kwayiba, a new signing this season, enjoyed a stellar month, scoring four goals in four consecutive matches. His strikes propelled Chippa United to victories against Cape Town Spurs, Kaizer Chiefs, and SuperSport United, helping them climb away from the relegation zone.

The judging panel, comprised of football commentators, analysts, and journalists, were impressed by Kwayiba’s adaptation to an attacking role after joining from Pretoria Callies in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. His April form makes him the first Chippa United player to win a monthly award since the club’s promotion to the top flight in 2014.

Mokwena, head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, has claimed the DStv Premiership Coach of the Month award for the second time this season. After receiving the accolade in August, Mokwena’s impressive April with Sundowns has earned him further recognition.

Mokwena’s month began with a 1-0 win over Richards Bay. Sundowns continued their dominant form, defeating Cape Town Spurs (1-0), Sekhukhune United (2-1), and TS Galaxy (3-0). They also secured a 2-2 draw away at Moroka Swallows. The judging panel applauded Mokwena’s ability to maintain his side’s winning consistency and unbeaten league run, even while managing their CAF Champions League commitments.

Sekhukhune United teenager Asekho Tiwani has secured the DStv Premiership Goal of the Month award for April. Tiwani edged out Sedywn George and Tebogo Mokoena for the honor. His maiden league goal, a spectacular strike from the halfway line in their 1-0 win over Cape Town Spurs, impressed the judges most. The goal caught the Spurs’ defense and goalkeeper completely off guard.

All winning coaches and players will receive a trophy and R7,000 courtesy of league sponsors, DStv.
