Johnson Praises Chivaviro’s Attitude

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson explained his decision to start Ranga Chivaviro ahead of Ashley Du Preez on Tuesday, praising Chivaviro’s positive attitude in training.

He even jokingly remarked, “I hope he scores four goals in the next match!”

Chivaviro, who arrived from Marumo Gallants at the season’s start, had struggled to replicate his goalscoring form from last season, when he netted 17 times for the relegated Limpopo side. This very form is what convinced Chiefs to sign him.

Despite only scoring twice before the TS Galaxy match, Chivaviro justified his starting role with a brace in the 2-2 DStv Premiership draw at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

“I don’t feel vindicated,” Johnson responded when asked if he felt justified in starting Chivaviro. “We started well initially, but Ranga has consistently shown a good mentality and positive attitude, always remaining upbeat within the team. He scores two goals – I hope he scores four next week!”

The draw against Galaxy did little to improve Chiefs’ position in the table. They remain eighth with 34 points after 27 matches.

Chiefs now travel from Polokwane to Durban for their next match against AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday (17:30).
