Monyane: Pirates Cannot Repeat Last Season’s Mistakes In CAF

Orlando Pirates defender Thabiso Monyane says there isn’t really much difference in the way things have been going at the club in pre-season with the new players coming in, and they are looking forward to fighting to get a second star in the Caf Champions League.
Pirates were knocked out in the first round of the Champions League campaign last season by Botswana side Jwaneng Galaxy, a huge disappointment for the team, but ended up redeeming themselves by winning the MTN8 Cup and the Nedbank Cup.
In their quest to make sure they become more competitive, Pirates have brought in a couple of new players in their squad, with the notable signings being Angolan winger Gilberto and former SuperSport United player Selaelo Rasebotja.
Monyane says what has been important in the last few days has been an integration of the new players as they prepare for the league campaign, which has been named the Betway Premiership in the 2024/25 campaign after DStv pulled out of the sponsorship.
“With the new lads coming in and having to gel with the team, all I can say is that it is not something different,” said Monyane.
“We are just looking forward to competing and we don’t want to repeat the mistakes that we made last season. We all know what happened in CAF (Champions League), we bowed out very soon. Now we are looking forward to going all the way and getting a second star.”
The Bucs defender adds that a good start in the upcoming season is crucial for them to do well in the League.
“We know for the past two seasons that we haven’t started the season as good as we wanted to. We know that and we want to rectify that, we want to start the season well, and that will contribute towards doing well in the league and retaining our titles which are the MTN8 Cup and the Nedbank Cup,” he concluded.
The Betway Premiership will start on the 10 August, a week later after the MTN8 quarter-finals.
