Mpisane Guides Royal AM To Premier’s Cup Semi Final

Chairman Andile Mpisane converted one of the penalties as Royal AM defeated Milford FC 4-3 in a shootout during the knockout round of the KZN Premier’s Cup at Prince Mangosuthu Regional Stadium on Saturday.

Neither team managed to score during the 90 minutes of regulation, sending the match directly to a penalty shootout. Mpisane, who entered the game as a late substitute, took on the penalty-taking responsibility without literally touching the ball and successfully converted his attempt.

Royal AM will now face AmaZulu in the semifinals at the same venue on Sunday. Richards Bay and Maritzburg United will contest the other semifinal after receiving a bye.

Royal AM began the match aggressively, with Sabelo Sithole’s shot saved by Milford goalkeeper Siphamandla Hleza within the first minute. Despite Milford’s dominance in possession, Royal AM’s counterattacks proved dangerous, resulting in a penalty in the 24th minute. Unfortunately, Motebang Sera’s poor effort missed the target.

Ayanda Jiyane was forced off with an injury five minutes before halftime, with Lesego Manganyi replacing him. The second half mirrored the first, with few clear-cut chances created.

The goalless draw led to a penalty shootout, where Royal AM emerged victorious thanks to crucial saves by goalkeeper Mondli Mpoto and successful penalties, including one from chairman Mpisane.
