AmaZulu Dump Arrows Out Of The Premier’s Cup
Winger Tshepang Morena’s brilliant strike secured a 2-1 victory for AmaZulu over Lamontville Golden Arrows in the KZN Premier’s Cup knockout match at Prince Mangosuthu Regional Stadium on Saturday.
The match appeared destined for a penalty shootout, as extra time is not played in this pre-season tournament, but Morena’s swiveling effort from a corner kick found the net, sending Usuthu into the semifinals.
Keanan Phillips gave AmaZulu an early lead via an own goal, scoring within the first minute, but Lungelo Nguse equalized for Abafana Bes’Thende in the 23rd minute. The game was evenly matched during the halftime.
Numerous substitutions on both sides disrupted the flow of the game in the second half. However, Morena’s late goal shattered Arrows’ hopes and secured AmaZulu’s place in the semifinals. The defending champions will look to retain their title. The semi final will be played at the same venue on Sunday.
