Nabi Explains Why He Took Chiefs Job

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has explained his decision to take on the Amakhosi role, citing the club’s trophy drought as a key factor.

Chiefs have endured a barren spell since their 2015 league and MTN8 double, with rivals Sundowns and the now-defunct Bidvest Wits dominating the domestic scene thereafter. Orlando Pirates have also enjoyed recent cup success, widening the gap between themselves and Chiefs.

Nabi expressed his ambition to restore Chiefs to their former glory. “The picture, the place where the club is supposed to be and where it has been, how big the club is, especially not having won a title in a long time, made me want to come here to challenge myself first,” said Nabi.

“I need to put the club where it is supposed to be. We need to a really good strategy to put the club; we need to be honest with ourselves and our supporters themselves.”

Acknowledging the gap between Chiefs and their rivals, Nabi emphasized the need for a thorough squad assessment. “We need to look at our quality without emotions. We need to look at what we have currently without being emotional,” he said.

“Once analysed what we have accordingly, and we put a strategy together of how to drive the team, by them, we should get somewhere we want.

“I do not want to make promises or just talk and make fans hear what they want, let’s not be at that level.

“We need to prepare, start to analyze and we will take it from there.”
