Nabi: I Can’t Go Through What I Went Through This Term

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has issued a strong warning to the club’s management, stating that he requires adequate resources and will not endure the challenges he faced with the current squad, which he felt was stretched thin this season.

This statement comes amid speculation surrounding Nabi’s future at Naturena, with reports suggesting he might depart Chiefs at the end of the current campaign.

When questioned about Nabi’s future in a radio interview, sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr. refrained from confirming whether the coach would remain next season. He indicated that discussions and evaluations would take place at the end of the season.

Nabi recently ended Kaizer Chiefs’ trophy drought by leading Amakhosi to a 2-1 victory over Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

This victory was particularly significant as it occurred exactly ten years and a day after Chiefs last lifted a trophy – the league title in the 2014/15 season, when they defeated Chippa United 2-0 on 9 May 2015, in the final match of that campaign at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Nabi’s emphasis suggests he believes it was remarkable that Chiefs managed to win the Nedbank Cup with the current group of players.

“I wouldn’t be honest if I said I’m going to stay,” Nabi said on SuperSport TV’s Extra Time on Monday night.

“If the club doesn’t allow me to get all the tools to succeed next season, because they have promised me and I have promised the fans that I want to build a successful team that is going to compete in every competition to win trophies, then that is the condition for me to stay. Because I don’t feel like I want to go through what I went through this season.”

At the post-match press conference on Saturday, Nabi, who has one year remaining on his contract, affirmed his desire to guide Chiefs back to the top before eventually leaving the club.

Chiefs have two remaining league fixtures before the season concludes: against Sekhukhune United on 17 May and Polokwane City on 24 May. It remains uncertain whether these matches will be his last with the club.
