Nabi Wants New Players To Bolster Chiefs Attack
Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has once again lamented missed opportunities after his side was held to a 1-1 draw by TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Monday, highlighting the need to reinforce the frontline.
The two teams played out to their seventh draw in nine Betway Premiership meetings as left-back Samukelo Kabini opened the scoring with a headed effort in the 35th minute before Ranga Chivaviro leveled matters in stoppage time to salvage a point for Amakhosi.
Nabi’s troops have won one of their last five league outings and find themselves in position nine on the log standings with 12 points after nine matches. The Soweto giants currently have zero goal difference after scoring and conceding 13.
The Tunisian tactician voiced his dissatisfaction with his team’s display in the early exchanges of the match, admitting that his charges were on the back foot. At the same time, he also believes that conceding from a set piece changed the whole complexity of the game.
“We feel that we didn’t start well, the first 20 minutes we were losing every ball, easy passes were lost, and all the duels were being won by the opponents which was very difficult for us. We tried to adjust the team tactically around the 25th minute, ” Nabi told SuperSport TV through a translator.
“We conceded a goal from a set piece when we felt like we were starting to come back into the game really well with more control and commitment. We tried to push forward in the second half, but we missed goal-scoring opportunities again.
“In the end, we tried everything to put more power, more risk forward and fortunately we got the point but we feel that we are very far from the level of a team like Kaizer Chiefs and we need to work hard and strengthen the team, ” he added.
Nabi reiterated that goal-shy Chiefs have an issue of missing clear-cut chances, stating that they need to bolster the squad with a striker that doesn’t hesitate to shoot the ball into the back of the net.
“We have the same kind of players up top, players who like to dribble and play in short spaces but we lack a little bit of power, we lack players who can shoot, who can make decisions that’s true. We need those kind of players as well in the future, ” he said.
“The perfect Christmas gift would be players that can strengthen the team and we are going to do everything we can with the players that we have to get better results.”
The Glamour Boys will host Chippa United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in their next league encounter on 29 December as they look to end the year on a high note and secure their fourth victory of the ongoing 2024/25 campaign.
