Ndlondlo On Bidding Farewell To Pirates: A Dream Fulfilled

Midfielder Phillip Ndlondlo has shared that it was his dream to play for Orlando Pirates, the club that officially parted ways with him on Wednesday.

Ndlondlo, who joined Pirates from Marumo Gallants alongside Miguel Timm ahead of the 2022/23 season, saw his contract with the Buccaneers not renewed at the end of last season after three years with the club.

The diminutive midfielder’s departure coincided with that of Monnapule Saleng, who has since gone on loan to Orbit College as his playing situation with the Soweto Giants hadn’t improved.

Sportswire learned that Saleng had desired to leave Pirates at the end of last season, but the club held an option to extend his contract.

Ndlondlo’s Farewell Message

Ndlondlo penned a heartfelt message on his official Instagram account:

“From the bottom of my heart, I would like to take this opportunity and thank the chairman, and the entire Orlando Pirates family, for giving me the opportunity of fulfilling a dream I had as a young kid – playing for the biggest team in the country. It’s not everyone that gets that opportunity and lives that dream, but I was one of the fortunate kids.”

He continued, “I’m so grateful for all the platforms that were offered to me to be able to achieve all the things I have accomplished and created the best memories with the best and special group that turned into brothers – from the staff, the mothers in the kitchen that prepare food for us, the groundsmen of Rand and Orlando Stadium, to the ever-faithful fans and the people behind the team.”

During his tenure, Ndlondlo enjoyed significant success, winning five trophies with Pirates: three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cups. He contributed three goals and three assists in 65 matches across all competitions.

He concluded his message with a touching farewell: “You will forever be a part of me. Thank you to all that have supported me throughout, and to my mates, I love you and you know the story. It was nice, and I wish you nothing but the best. You know the story – once and always.”
