Nwabali’s Shock Return To Chippa United

Super Eagles international goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has made a surprise return to Chippa United, signing a new deal with the club after struggling to secure an overseas move following his abrupt departure in February.
Nwabali shocked the South African football fraternity when he terminated his contract with the Chilli Boys earlier this year, immediately following high-level talks with the club’s management.
The veteran goalkeeper opted to cut ties with the Eastern Cape outfit in hopes of securing a lucrative move abroad, but after several concrete options failed to materialize over the last few months, he has returned to familiar territory.
The Nigerian shot-stopper, who anchored the Super Eagles’ defense during their bronze-medal campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, notably did not feature for Chippa after the tournament concluded in January.
Chippa United officially confirmed his re-signing on Sunday, expressing immense satisfaction at securing their star goalkeeper once again.
“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Stanley Nwabali back to the Chilli Boys,” the club announced in a statement. “After taking some time away, Stanley returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the fold.”
Before his mid-season departure, Nwabali had established himself as a cornerstone of the Chilli Boys’ defensive unit.
He returns to Gqeberha boasting an established record of 76 appearances across all competitions for the club, during which he registered 25 clean sheets and conceded 85 goals.
