Official: Chiefs Confirm Sirino Signing
Kaizer Chiefs has confirmed the signing of Gaston Sirino on a two-year deal.
Sirino was seen with Amakhosi management at their headquarters on Friday to undergo medical.
The 33-year-old has been signed by Chiefs after he was released by Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of last season.
“Kaizer Chiefs have strengthened their squad in the attacking department with the acquisition of attacker, Gaston Sirino. The Uruguayan has penned a two-year contract with the Glamour Boys.”
The 33-year-old has been in the country after he joined Sundowns from Bolivian club Bolivar in the second half of the 2017/18 season.
His time in South Africa was incredibly successful, with seven league titles, one Carling Knockout Cup, one MTN8, two Nedbank Cups, and the African Football League added to his trophy cabinet. Sirino will be remembered for numerous standout moments, including the long-range winning goal against Bloemfontein Celtic in the 2019/20 Nedbank Cup final, which marked Pitso Mosimane’s final game as Sundowns coach.
The Uruguayan made a total of 202 appearances for Sundowns, scoring 43 goals and providing 44 assists. Notably, he enjoyed success against Chiefs, scoring three times against them, including a hat-trick in a 6-1 Nedbank Cup victory over La Masia last season.
Sirino is the Chiefs’ fourth official signing of the transfer window, following the arrivals of Rushwin Dortley from Cape Town Spurs, Fiacre Ntwari from TS Galaxy and Bongani Sam from Moroka Swallows.
The good news for Chiefs is that Sirino has obtained the South African permanent resident, which means he is registered as the local player, and has been handed jersey number 10.
