Phewa Joins Ighodaro To Accept His Situation With Downs

Just like striker Etiosa Ighodaro, Luvuyo Phewa is also accepting his situation with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Both Phewa and Ighodaro have been loaned to AmaZulu for the upcoming season, and the two were unveiled at the club’s jersey launch and sponsorships announcement at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Monday.
Last season, Phewa was loaned out by Sundowns to Cape Town Spurs, who were unfortunately relegated at the end of the season. After his unveiling on Monday, Ighodaro expressed acceptance of his situation at Sundowns, acknowledging that the constant loan moves have toughened him up. He believes things might improve once he obtains permanent residency.
Phewa, who joined Sundowns from KwaZulu-Natal’s Real Kings ahead of the 2019/20 season, admitted that his situation is beyond his control. When questioned about the impact of frequent loan moves on his development, he responded, “I just have to accept what is happening and no complaint, nothing. If they loan me to AmaZulu, I have to come here and play and perform.”
Like Ighodaro, Phewa has never played for Sundowns since his signing. When asked about his desired situation given the apparent lack of plans for him at the club, Phewa declined to comment, stating, “No comments for that because I don’t know.”
Phewa, who has previously been loaned to Chippa United twice and University of Pretoria by Sundowns, expressed his hopes of performing well at AmaZulu. However, he is currently focused on recovering from groin injury sustained at Spurs last season.
“I’m hoping to perform here at AmaZulu and try to do my best here,” said the 24-year-old.
“But for now I still have to be fit because as you know at Spurs I got injured and I’m doing my rehab right now.”
Other players officially unveiled by AmaZulu on Monday included Kwanda Mngonyama, who also never played for Sundowns despite forming part of its development, Boniface Haba, and Senzo Ndlovu.
