Pirates Advance To MTN8 Final After City Victory
Orlando Pirates have secured their place in the MTN8 final after a 2-0 victory over Cape Town City in the second leg of their semi-final at Orlando Stadium on Saturday. The victory gave Pirates a 3-1 aggregate win over City.
Pirates will now face the winner of the other semi-final between Stellenbosch FC and Mamelodi Sundowns, which will be played at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday.
The first leg of the Pirates-City tie ended in a 1-1 draw in Cape Town, setting the stage for a thrilling return fixture. Both teams played with intensity from the start, with City initially dominating possession. However, Pirates struck first in the 24th minute when Tshegofatso Mabasa scored from a recylcled corner by Relebohile Mofokeng.
Pirates extended their lead two minutes before the half ended when Dion Hotto scored a beautiful goal from a free kick, leaving City goalkeeper Darren Keet rooted in the post. City made several substitutions in an attempt to claw their way back into the game in the second half, but Pirates remained dominant and secured the victory. This means City is still searching their first win over Pirates at Orlando Stadium.
