Pirates And Sekhukhune Star Hangs Up Boots

Veteran attacker Linda Mntambo has confirmed his retirement from professional football, bringing down the curtain on an impactful career following his final spell with Sekhukhune United.
The 37-year-old made his top-flight debut for Jomo Cosmos against Kaizer Chiefs on 20 October 2015, when he was 26 years old.
From Cosmos, Mntambo earned a move to Chippa United before joining Soweto giants Orlando Pirates. His career pinnacle came during the 2020/21 season, when he helped the Buccaneers lift the MTN8 title after defeating Bloemfontein Celtic at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
He left Orlando Pirates at the end of the 2021/22 season to anchor the midfield at Sekhukhune United. Reflecting on his journey, an emotional Mntambo expressed his immense gratitude to the sport.
“It is me saying thank you to football, because people would not have known me if it wasn’t for football,” Mntambo stated in part of the video released by the club.
Despite battling persistent injuries that severely limited his game time during his final season in the Betway Premiership, Mntambo’s structural quality was undeniable. Across all top-flight competitions, the midfielder racked up 169 appearances, registering 29 goals and 16 assists.
