Pirates Confirm The New Captain

Orlando Pirates has announced Nkosinathi Sibisi as the club’s new captain for the upcoming season, taking over from the recently retired Innocent Maela.
Sibisi’s appointment follows a successful season where he was named the PSL Defender of the Season. The club also confirmed that young defender Mbekezi Mbokazi and Thapelo Xoki will serve as vice-captains.
In a statement, the club explained that the captain was chosen through a confidential voting process among the players, in keeping with club tradition. “Emerging as the team’s clear choice to wear the captain’s armband is defender Nkosinathi Sibisi,” the statement read.
Sibisi, who joined Pirates from Golden Arrows before the 2022/23 season, expressed his gratitude. “It is truly an honour and privilege to be named captain of this great institution. It’s a responsibility that I accept and promise to fulfill the role in the best way I possibly can.”
Since joining the Buccaneers, Sibisi has made 102 appearances, scoring three goals and providing two assists. He has been part of five trophy-winning campaigns, including three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cups.
