Pirates Dominate Bafana Squad With New Faces

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has finalized his squad for the upcoming two international friendly matches in June, with a strong contingent from Orlando Pirates.

Powerful defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi of Orlando Pirates is among the notable inclusions.

Other new faces in the Bafana Bafana squad include Mbokazi’s Orlando Pirates teammates Simphiwe Selepe and Mohau Nkota, as well as AmaZulu’s Tshepang Moremi and Richards Bay striker Yanela Mbuthuma.

Pirates provides the largest number of players to the national team, with Relebohile Mofokeng, Thalente Mbatha, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Deano van Rooyen, and Patrick Maswanganyi also cutting.

TS Galaxy’s Khulumani Ndamane has also earned a spot, after missing the March 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers due to passport issues.

Broos trimmed the squad from the preliminary 41-man list he announced last week, a practice he has consistently followed since his arrival in South Africa in May 2021. Players who were not selected for these friendlies are expected to feature in the COSAFA Cup, set to take place in Bloemfontein early next month.

Notably, no players from Mamelodi Sundowns were included in this camp, as they have been excused due to their upcoming participation in the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States of America.

Bafana Bafana will play their two friendly matches against Tanzania at Peter Mokaba Stadium on 6 June, followed by a clash against Mozambique four days later.

Mozambique stepped in at the last minute after Namibia pulled out, reportedly due to fears of a heavy defeat against Bafana Bafana.
