Pirates Make Their Major Signing In Jan Window

Orlando Pirates have made their first signing of the January transfer window, announcing the arrival of Andre de Jong from Stellenbosch FC.

De Jong has long been linked with a move to the Buccaneers, with a transfer almost materialising at the start of the season before finally being completed now.

“Orlando Pirates is pleased to announce the signing of Andre de Jong,” the club said on X.

This move sees De Jong join his fourth PSL club since arriving in South Africa ahead of the 2019/20 season, when he signed for AmaZulu.

The New Zealander later had a brief spell at Royal AM before moving to Stellenbosch, where he played a key role in helping the club lift the Carling Knockout title during the 2023/24 season.

Since his arrival in the PSL, De Jong has featured in 161 matches across all competitions, scoring 22 goals and providing 15 assists.

Primarily deployed as a number 10, De Jong can also operate as a number nine, offering Pirates versatility in attack.

At Pirates, he joins former Stellenbosch teammates Deano van Rooyen and Sihle Nduli, who have also recently made the switch to the Soweto giants.
