PSL Confirm MTN8 Semis Venues And Dates

The PSL has announced the venues of the first leg of the MTN8 semi-finals. The blockbuster matchups will see Orlando Pirates face Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch take on Sekhukhune United.

Pirates, who have won this cup in the last three seasons, will host Sundowns in the first leg at Orlando Stadium on 16 August.

The following day, Stellenbosch, who were the runners-up last season, will host Sekhukhune United at Danie Craven Stadium.

The return legs are scheduled for 23-24 August, but the venues and ticket sale dates have yet to be confirmed.

Sundowns faces a logistical challenge with their home venue, Loftus Stadium. The stadium’s sponsorship with Vodacom‘s Blue Bulls rugby team creates a conflict with MTN, the title sponsor of the tournament.

To host an MTN8 match, Sundowns would be required to remove all Vodacom branding, a process that comes with significant costs. This is why in the 2022/23 season, Sundowns moved their semi-final match against Pirates to Peter Mokaba Stadium, where they were defeated 3-0.
