PSL To Postpone More Pirates And Sundowns Matches
Sportswire has learned that Orlando Pirates’ Betway Premiership match against Golden Arrows, scheduled for next Tuesday at Orlando Stadium, is likely to be postponed by the PSL.
The postponement is necessary to allow Pirates adequate time to prepare for their CAF Champions League group stage match against Stade Abidjan in Ivory Coast next weekend.
Similarly, Mamelodi Sundowns’ league match against Chippa United on Tuesday next week may also be rescheduled to accommodate their Champions League fixture against Raja Casablanca in Pretoria next weekend.
These postponements are part of a series of adjustments made by the PSL to accommodate South African clubs participating in CAF competitions.
Pirates’ match against Marumo Gallants on Tuesday, 3 December, was moved, to give them sufficient preparation time for their crucial clash against Al Ahly at Orlando Stadium on Saturday (15:00). Sundowns’ match against AmaZulu at King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban on Tuesday was also postponed.
Stellenbosch FC, who are making their debut in the CAF Confederation Cup group stages, had their match against Magesi FC also on Tuesday postponed to allow them to prepare for their continental fixture against RS Berkane at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday.
The three South African clubs have had mixed results in their CAF campaigns so far. Pirates secured a 2-1 victory over CR Belouizdad away in their opening Champions League group stage match, while Sundowns drew with AS Maniema in Pretoria. Stellenbosch, unfortunately, suffered a 2-0 defeat to Stade Malien in Mali in their first Confederation Cup group stage match.
