MFC Nedbank Cup Representatives Confirmed

Motsepe Foundation Championship representatives for the 2024/25 Nedbank Cup last 32 have been confirmed following the round-up of qualifying fixtures on Wednesday.

The competition consists of 16 Betway Premiership teams, eight from the second tier of South African football, and eight amateur clubs from the SAFA ABC Motsepe League divisions across the different provinces.

Baroka FC booked their spot with a 2-0 win over Casric Stars at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Tuesday, while their Limpopo counterparts Venda FC, who are rock bottom in the league standings, secured passage with a resounding 4-1 win away to JDR Stars.

Meanwhile, newly promoted Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Kruger United stunned ambitious Orbit College thanks to a solitary first-half goal from Mzwiwokhula Zimu at Olympia Park stadium.

On the other hand, table toppers Milford FC compounded misery on six-game winless in the league Upington City when they dumped them out of the cup of dreams with a 2-0 win at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs stadium.

In Wednesday’s encounters, Simo Dladla’s Durban City claimed a dramatic late 1-0 win over the 2024 ABC Motsepe National Playoffs champions Highbury FC as defender Athini Jodwana scored the decisive goal in the 88th minute at Chatsworth Stadium.

Elsewhere, the University of Pretoria, who were eliminated in a penalty shootout against Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarterfinals last season and reached the final in 2009, succumbed to a slender 1-0 defeat to Hungry Lions as city rivals Pretoria Callies progressed at the expense of Leruma United.

Cape Town Spurs, who have struggled to register a win in their last eight league outings, round up the pack following a 4-1 penalty shootout win over Black Leopards, losing finalists in the 2010/11 season, after the two sides couldn’t break the deadlock in 120 minutes at Thohoyandou Stadium. Orlando Pirates are the defending champions of this cup having won it in the past two seasons.
