Pule Aims To Bring Old Successful Days With Hunt

SuperSport United’s new acquisition Vincent Pule has conveyed great optimism on his reunion with coach Gavin Hunt, desiring more game time and title conquests.

The 32-year-old enjoyed a successful four-year spell at Bidvest Wits, under coach Hunt, forming part of the last team to win the league title and the MTN8 in the 2016/17 before Mamelodi Sundowns’ seven-season pre-eminence.

In the following season, he will forever be remembered for coming on the bench to score the winning goal when he backheeled the ball into the net in the Carling Knockout final against Bloemfontein Celtic at Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban.

After an impressive campaign at Wits, Pule completed a major move to Orlando Pirates at which he stayed for six full seasons and has since been recently released, joining SuperSport in a reunion with Hunt.

Pule reflected on his reunion with coach Hunt saying, “It’s an exciting time for me, playing for coach Gavin again, it motivates me a lot you know because where he coached before, where I was at, he won the league and we won trophies so I think we want to see SuperSport lifting the trophies this season.”

Battling with injuries and ever-growing competition in an immensely bloated Pirates squad, the winger played a total of just 11 games, registering a single assist in all competitions in his last season at Pirates.

This has led to Pule’s stock significantly drop for a game time over the last few seasons, but he believes it can only be hard work that can reignite his game.

“As a player, you always want to be inside the field and if it doesn’t happen, you always have to work hard to prove yourself,” he said.

“Last season it did not happen and this season I am a SuperSport, I am very happy, and I am hoping to get more playing time.”

The former Bafana international further maintained a positive attitude, declaring that he is willing to afford every player selected over him a great deal of support.

“The thing is, inside the field, you can only field 11 payers so for me, it’s to support everyone who plays and when I am given a chance, I make sure I take it with both hands,” declared Pule.

At 32, Pule joins Matsantsantsa as one of the most senior figures in the squad, following former Pirates and Wits teammate and club captain, Thulani Hlatshwayo.
