Mahlangu Launches An Attack To Buthelezi: You Were A Cow

Ex-Kaizer Chiefs dribbling wizard Jabu Mahlangu has launched a scathing attack on former Bafana Bafana defender Linda Buthelezi following the latter’s criticism of Mahlangu’s inclusion in the Amakhosi Legends team.

The outburst comes after Mahlangu featured for the Chiefs Legends in a curtain-raiser match against Bloemfontein Celtic FC legends at the Free State Stadium on Sunday. Buthelezi had questioned Mahlangu’s eligibility to be called a legend, arguing that the midfielder’s achievements for Chiefs didn’t match those of icons like Doctor Khumalo and the late Pule ‘Ace’ Ntsoelengoe.

In a fiery three-minute video shared on social media, Mahlangu vehemently denied seeking the ‘legend’ title and dismissed Buthelezi as a “cow” and a “dirty player”. He accused Buthelezi of disrespect and insisted that the former defender’s own playing career was unremarkable.

“First of all, I never asked to be a Kaizer Chiefs legend, nor have I ever called myself a legend, a celebrity, or all that nonsense. I’m surprised when you Linda mentions my name saying that I’m not a Chiefs legend. I never wanted that. I am Jabu Mahlangu, God’s child like any other person,” said Mahlangu on the video.

“You’re saying that I wasted my career. Who are you? You were a cow. Even if they talk about Bafana Bafana legends, your name is not there. No one remembers you. You’re a legend of red cards, yellow cards, and being dirty on the field. You’re a cow.”

Mahlangu further emphasized his point, stating, “I’m not going to stand here and listen to another man disrespecting me. We were playing football on Sunday; it was nice with the gents playing for Chiefs and you mentioned my name. I saw Junior’s (Khanye) story saying he doesn’t care about being a legend. It’s fine, everyone has their own opinion. But what irritates me and I won’t stand for is being disrespected by another man. You’re older than me, Linda, but I’m also a father and family man.

“I have the same responsibilities as you. I want to ask you to stop mentioning people’s names unnecessarily because you’re also not a legend of the game, you’re a cow. You’re a cow of red cards and you were a dirty player. I couldn’t even watch you play. Even when you had the ball you would pass it to opponents because you don’t know what to do with it.”

Despite Buthelezi being part of the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations-winning Bafana Bafana team, Mahlangu downplayed his achievements, attributing the victory to the contributions of other players like Doctor Khumalo and the late Shoes Moshoeu.

“You were helped by (players around you) like Doctor and Shoes (Moshoeu),” he added.

Mahlangu has been a regular member of the Chiefs Legends team, featuring alongside the likes of Brian Baloyi, Cyril Nzama, and Stanton Fredericks. The Chiefs Legends emerged victorious in the curtain-raiser, defeating the Celtic Legends 2-1 thanks to goals from David Radebe and Siyabonga Nomvethe.
