Pyramids Stun Sundowns Late In CAF Champions League Final First Leg

Mamelodi Sundowns was denied an advantage in the CAF Champions League final first leg after they were denied a late draw against Egyptian giants Pyramids at Loftus Stadium on Saturday.
The Brazilians took the lead through Lucas Ribeiro’s stunning strike in the 54th minute, but Pyramids snatched an equalizer in the dying minutes of the game through Walid El Karti’s header.
The match was a closely contested affair, with both teams creating scoring opportunities. Sundowns started strong, with Iqraam Rayners testing Pyramids’ goalkeeper Ahmed Elshenawi in the 9th minute.
However, the visitors gradually gained momentum, with Fiston Mayele and Ibrahim Mohamed combining well to threaten Sundowns’ defense.
Despite Sundowns’ best efforts, they couldn’t capitalize on their chances until Ribeiro’s goal in the 54th minute. Pyramids, however, refused to give up and equalized dramatically in the last minute of the game.
The draw sets up an intriguing second leg match between the two teams, scheduled for June 1st at the 30 June Stadium in Egypt.
Sundowns, who won the CAF Champions League in 2016 under Pitso Mosimane, will aim to overcome the deficit and claim their second title.
Pyramids, on the other hand, are seeking their first-ever CAF Champions League title.
The second leg promises to be an intense and thrilling encounter, with both teams determined to emerge victorious.
Will Sundowns’ Brazilian flair be enough to overcome Pyramids’ determination, or will the Egyptian side pull off a stunning upset? The stage is set for an exciting conclusion to this final tie.
