REVEALED: Qatar SC Insert A Clause In Tau’s Contract

Ahead of his imminent move to Qatar Stars League outfit Qatar SC, new information has emerged about Percy Tau’s contract details with the Qatari club believed to have included a clause during their negotiations with the player’s entourage.

The Bafana international arrived in Doha on Friday to undergo his medical checks and is expected to be officially announced as a recruit this week. The 30-year-old forward is expected to pen a six-month short-term contract.

This move will end the constant speculations around Tau’s future after he was reportedly deemed surplus to requirements at Cairo International Stadium, despite his deal running until the end of the current season.

Reports in Egypt indicated that Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller and the Mpumalanga-born attacker had a strained relationship which resulted in the player seeing little game time in recent campaigns and subsequently losing his spot at Bafana Bafana.

The Mamelodi Sundowns academy graduate leaves the Egyptian powerhouse with two league titles, four Egyptian Super Cups, two domestic cups, two CAF Champions League, and one CAF Super Cup triumph. He scored 30 goals and provided 14 assists in 126 appearances.

Tau will be the third player to move from the record African champions to the Qatari side after two former Al Ahly men, Badr Banoune and Ahmed Abdelkader. Furthermore, he will link up with former Spain international and Bayern Munich anchor man Javi Martinez.

Now, whispers echoing around the Middle East suggest that the Doha-based outfit inserted a clause in the former Brighton Hove & Albion star’s contract that stipulates a desire to extend Tau’s stay by a further two years as per Qatari newspaper Al Arab.

However, the extension will be granted on the condition that Hugo Broos’ vice-captain impresses during his six-month stint with the club. The onus is on Tau to hit the ground running and leave a lasting impression on the hierarchy.

Qatar SC is currently fighting relegation in the 12-team championship. They are in 11th place with 10 points amassed after 12 league outings following their disappointing 4-1 defeat to log leaders Al-Duhail SC on Sunday.
