Rhodes Completes European Move From Cape Town City

Cape Town City have confirmed the sale of academy graduate Jaedin Rhodes to Austrian outfit SV Ried for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old midfielder leaves the Citizens after a lengthy spell in the mother city to launch his European career ahead of the 2026/27 Austrian Bundesliga season.

A Crucial Replacement in Austria

SV Ried specifically targeted Rhodes to fill the creative void left by another South African export, Antonio Van Wyk. Van Wyk spent two highly successful years in Austria before returning home to join Mamelodi Sundowns a few weeks ago.

At Ried, Rhodes will join a very familiar face in former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart, who moved to the Austrian club at the start of last season. The Capetonian becomes Ried’s second major signing of the current transfer window, following the arrival of Raphael Pesu.

End of a Era in Cape Town

Cape Town City released an official statement bidding farewell to their homegrown talent:

“Cape Town City have reached an agreement with SV Ried for the transfer of Jaedin Rhodes. A product of our academy, Jaedin leaves the club after many years in blue to begin a new chapter in the Austrian Bundesliga. Wishing you all the best, Jaedin.”

Rhodes has been a foundational pillar for City since his promotion to the first team in February 2022.

He departs the club—which suffered a shock relegation from the top flight at the end of the 2024/25 campaign to the Motsepe Foundation Championship—having amassed 93 appearances across all competitions, netting nine goals and providing four assists.

Meanwhile, City confirmed the appointment of new coach Andries Ulderink on Thursday.
