Richards Bay Sign Mhango As Mbuthuma Joins Pirates
Sportswire has learned that Richards Bay has secured the signing of veteran striker Gabadinho Mhango, who joins the club as a direct replacement for Yanela Mbuthuma.
It’s understood that Mbuthuma’s transfer to Orlando Pirates is now complete, prompting Richards Bay to act swiftly to fill the void left by their influential forward.
Mbuthuma was a crucial player for Richards Bay last season, netting six goals in 26 appearances. His contributions were vital in helping the club achieve a historic top-eight finish for the first time, setting up an MTN8 quarter-final clash against Mamelodi Sundowns next season.
This move marks Mhango’s third stint with a KwaZulu-Natal-based club. He previously played for Golden Arrows during the 2015/16 season on loan from Bloemfontein Celtic. The 33-year-old also spent the 2022/23 season with AmaZulu, having joined them from Orlando Pirates.
Mhango arrives at Richards Bay from Marumo Gallants, where he featured in 22 matches across all competitions last season, scoring five goals.
Since his arrival in South Africa, which also included a spell at Moroka Swallows, Mhango has enjoyed a decorated career, winning the league title, two MTN8 trophies, and the Carling Knockout. Overall, he has accumulated an impressive record of 67 goals and 17 assists in 276 appearances.
