Riveiro Aims For The Knockout Spot In the Champions League

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has acknowledged CR Belouizdad as a good side, but the Buccaneers will do everything for them to win.

The Buccaneers will face the Algerian giant CR Belouizdad at Orlando Stadium on Saturday [15h00].

This will be a second-round match between these two sides as the home side beat CRB in Algeria in their first game of the group stage.

Pirates are currently second with eight points after four games in Group C. The Algerian, on the other side, has six points and the loss against the Buccaneers will see them knocked out of the competition.

The Spanish tactician Riveiro revealed that the Algerian giants are a good team, but at the same time, the Buccaneers need three points and will make sure they get them.

“I wish I could know [how CRB are going to approach this game], but before the game, we navigate in a space of full speculation about different possibilities of the opponent,” Riveiro said.

“What I can tell you is that they are capable of approaching the game in different ways. They are a very, very tough team with really good players that got a lot of speed.

“What they do they do in a very high tempo. But at the same time, we are more focused on ourselves. At this point in the stage, we want to win the game because we know these three points will take us to the space we want to be.

“So, that’s all and we are going to try to be active from the first minutes till the end of the match.”

Pirates are the only unbeaten side in Group C and they are yet to concede a goal at home. Riveiro added that what is the main secret behind this run.

“I think before the game I’m always thinking that I’m going to win, and that’s what we are trying to express in our players no matter which opponent we are going to face,” Riveiro added.

“Every team is trying to get a resource, especially in this competition, and the level we are playing right now. But at the same time in the game, we try to find the strengths and the weaknesses of our opponent to try to dominate them and be better than them in every match.

“Sometimes we do it and sometimes not, but even when we don’t we try to be competitive and try to win the match. In this one, we are not trying to think so much about where is this game taking us but it’s just a game and an opportunity for us to win the match since we are playing at home.

“It’s our opportunity to enjoy the competition and get experience in the continent to grow as a group. On Sunday] is the same approach, and we want to do everything for us to get experience in this competition.”
