Riveiro Appointed Head Coach Of Swedish Giants
Former Orlando Pirates coach José Riveiro has been appointed as head coach of Swedish giants AIK, the club has confirmed.
Riveiro, who guided Pirates to five trophies in three seasons, has been without a club since leaving Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly, where he was in charge for just few matches.
“I am very proud and happy to be part of a club that truly lives and breathes football,” Riveiro told the club’s media department.
“AIK is a club with a strong identity, high ambitions and enormous passion around the team.
“I am really looking forward to getting started, building relationships and working closely with the players and my colleagues to develop the team every day and take the next step, both individually and collectively.”
AIK is familiar territory for South African football fans, having previously been home to former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs striker Siyabonga Nomvethe during his spell in Sweden.
Riveiro joins an AIK side that finished seventh in the Allsvenskan last season.
