Seema Reflects On Siwelele’s Survival And Top Eight Hopes

Siwelele coach Lehlohonolo Seema has expressed relief after guiding his side away from relegation danger in the Betway Premiership.

Siwelele currently sit ninth on the table with 32 points from 26 matches. With four games remaining, they still have an outside chance of finishing in the top eight if results elsewhere go their way and they secure maximum points in their remaining fixtures.

The Bloemfontein-based side endured a difficult start to the season, spending time in the relegation zone. However, the former Sekhukhune United coach has since overseen a turnaround in form.

“People forget that after nine games we had five points,” said Seema.

“We were in 16th position. These boys turned it around, so I think they deserve a lot of praise because they sacrificed and worked extremely hard. They had to develop character very quickly.

“I also want to thank the management of Siwelele—the chairman and the CEO—for their support. We really appreciate the opportunity they gave us to lead this team. It was not easy, especially as they are relatively new in the game, but they managed to steer the ship forward. I believe the supporters will have plenty to be happy about next season.”

Under Seema’s recent run, Siwelele has averaged 1.7 points per game, compared to the 0.55 they averaged in the opening nine weeks.

Seema’s side will next face Durban City, the newly-crowned Nedbank Cup champions, at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium on Tuesday.
