September: Mammila Back To Boost The Club

Chippa United coach Thabo September says the return of Morgan Mammila to be the second assistant coach in the Chilli Boys was pushed by him.

Mammila returned to the Chilli Boys this month, and his first game on the bench was a 4-1 victory against bottom-side Magesi at Seshego Stadium.

The former Baroka coach was listed as the second assistant coach in that game where it was finished the following day due to light failure in the new stadium. Following Chippa’s 3-0 loss to Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup round of 16 on Saturday, September revealed why Mammila has reunited with the Chilli Boys.

“I think when Morgan [Mammila] left I was a co-coach with coach [Kwanele] Kopo. When Morgan left, the club was giving him a position and he was not up for that position,” September said.

“So, when he came back now he came back because I needed help. He understands the players well and also me and coach Mabhuti [Khenyeza].

“So, in the players, he helps on and off the field and he does a very good job with the players. In football, you need to have some people who will help you, and when you are good at something you must recognize yourself.

“He’s got his strength, so I think that’s why he came back and the chairman agreed. So, he is the part of the team in that way.”

This is the third time for Mammila with the 2013/14 champions of the Motsepe Foundation Championship, as he was previously the CEO, head coach, technical director, and now an assistant coach.

The former Golden Arrows co-coach, Mabhuti Khenyeza remains the first assistant coach while Mammila is the second assistant coach.

Mammila and his team Chilli Boys will be visiting the Cape Town-based side Cape Town City at Athlone Stadium on Tuesday evening [19:30].
