SuperSport Hammer Chiefs In Hunt’s 999 Game In Charge

Kaizer Chiefs missed an opportunity to move to the fifth place in the Betway Premiership after they were thumped 4-1 by SuperSport United at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Samir Nurkovic, Christian Saile, Ghampani Lungu, and Siphesihle Ndlovu scored the goals for SuperSport, while Chiefs’ only goal in the match was scored by Glody Lilepo.

Chiefs didn’t start the game on a high foot as they conceded the first goal in the 3 third minute, and the goal was scored by the ex-striker of Amakhosi Nurkovic, applying a perfect finish when he connected well with Lungu’s cross.

SuperSport almost got a second goal after 15 minutes through Lungu, and fortunately, Rushwin Dortley made a clearance off the line to deny the visitors to increase the lead.

The 2014/15 champions of the Premiership started playing well after 20 minutes, trying to push forward and find goals. They were rewarded as Congolese Lilepo scored a great goal with a header in the 30th, with Pule Mmodi setting him up after the latter’s close-range shot was saved by Ricardo Goss.

Two minutes later, the visitors restored the lead through Saile who is also a former Chiefs player just like Nurkovic, also connecting well with a cross on the left-hand side. It was Nurkovic who assisted the second goal of Gavin Hunt’s side. After the second goal, Nabi made an early surprising substitution as he introduced the youngster, Mduduzi Shabalala taking off Mmodi who assisted Lilepo’s goal.

Nabi made two changes before the second half started as he introduced Happy Mashiane and George Matlou for Bradley Cross and Yusuf Maart. The home side started the first 15 minutes very well and they almost got a goal in the 59th minute but Tashreeq Morris’ shot was denied by the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Goss.

Four minutes later, Hunt’s side increased the lead to make it 3-1 through the Zambian winger Lungu, who was rewarded for having worked  his socks off. After that goal, Amakhosi suffered a blow as the Uruguayan Gaston Sirino got a red card for a dissent.

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Ndlovu scored the fourth goal in the 84th minute to make it 4-1 in favor of the visitors. This was the second time Amatsatsantsa beat Chiefs in the league, as Amakhosi lost 1-0 in the first round against SuperSport away. If Chiefs managed to win this game they were going to move to fifth place in the log. Nabi’s side still lying in sixth place with 25 points.

It meant SuperSport did the double over Chiefs for the first time since the 2011/12 season. This was also Hunt’s 999 match in the PSL.
