Orlando Pirates has confirmed that seven players have returned to training as the intense schedule kicks off for the Soweto giants.

Pirates jetted to Algeria as they start the CAF Champions League group stage against CR Belouizdad, the club of former Cape Town City striker Khanyisa Mayo, at Stade du 5 Juillet 1962 (al-Jazā’ir (Algiers).

As it will be the first meeting in the Champions League in Group C, Pirates will go to this game hugely boosted by the return of some of their stars.

Pirates will play eight games before the end of the year.

“As Orlando Pirates prepare to kick off their TotalEnergies CAF Champions League campaign against CR Belouizdad on Tuesday evening, the Buccaneers are also focusing on ensuring their squad is fully fit for the demanding schedule ahead,” said Pirates in a statement.

“Jose Riveiro and his technical team will need every player available during this intense period, as the clash against the Algerian giants marks the first of a demanding 21 days. It’s a challenging schedule by any standard, but there is some encouraging news from the Bucs’ medical department.

Updates on the squad’s fitness could provide a crucial boost as the team navigates this testing phase of the season.

  • Makhehlene Makhaula
  • Thabiso Lebitso
