Shabalala Wants Chiefs To Spoil Sundowns Party
Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala vows to stop Mamelodi Sundowns from clinching the DStv Premiership title at FNB Stadium tonight.
Chiefs host the soon-to-be champions at FNB Stadium (19:30), where a win for Sundowns would secure their seventh consecutive league title.
Shabalala, who helped Chiefs end their winless streak against SuperSport United over the weekend, expects a tough battle.
“It’s always a tough match. Everybody knows that they are log leaders at the moment, but it’s really all about us,” Shabalala said on Chiefs website, as he is set to start in today’s game.
“We are going to have to execute our game-plan, and when we get opportunities, we have to be clinical.
“We want to stop them from winning the league in our house.”
Shabalala’s second-half strike secured a 2-1 win over SuperSport United, ending Chiefs’ five-game winless run. The 20-year-old midfielder admits the goal boosted his confidence and desire to score more.
“It’s a great feeling, because I have been desperately wanting to score goals to help the team. It has really boosted my confidence and increased my appetite to score more goals,” he said.
Nicknamed ‘Mdu or die,’ Shabalala outlines the Naturena-based side’s ambitions for the rest of the season. With Chiefs sitting eighth in the league with five games remaining, their aim is to qualify for a CAF spot and “get back to where we belong as Kaizer Chiefs, at the top.”
