Sibisi Relieved To Have Played The Entire MTN8 Final

Orlando Pirates defender Nkosinathi Sibisi played the entire MTN8 final against Stellenbosch on Saturday without suffering an injury, answering his prayers.

In the two previous MTN8 finals, Sibisi was unable to complete the match due to injuries. He was substituted in the fifth minute against AmaZulu in the 2022/23 season and in the 34th minute against Mamelodi Sundowns last season.

However, on Saturday, Sibisi started and finished the MTN8 final against Stellenbosch, a match that Pirates won 3-1. Sibisi admitted to praying for a healthy match and expressed his gratitude for being able to play.

“This final means a lot to me,” Sibisi admitted in the mixed zone after the game.

“I played here – two finals – I suffered injuries in all. So, for me on Saturday I woke up and I prayed that I play the entire game without picking up any injuries.

“I feel really blessed to play this game, especially, and I want to thank the guys for working together to ensure that the team wins.”

Despite limited playing time this season due to the emergence of Thabiso Sesane, Sibisi stepped up when the team needed him. With this victory, Pirates became the first club in PSL history to win the MTN8 three times in a row as well as their coach Jose Riveiro.
