Slovenia Snatches A Point Against Denmark

Slovenia held their own against a strong Denmark, securing a 1-1 draw in their opening fixture of Euro 2024 on Sunday.

Capitalising the Slovenian’s slight lapse of concentration, Chrisian Eriksen found himself at the end of a swift throw in move to slot it at the far post, beating Jan Oblak in the 17thminute of the game.

It proved to be a poignant moment as the Manchester United midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest in 2021 edition and it was 1100 days since that horrible day happened in his home country.

Having already set the tone with a well worked team goal, the Danish continued to dominate proceedings in the first half, forcing two saves off Oblak.

The half time whistle blew with the score remaining at 1-0 but Denmark looking the more threatening side with Slovenia having not registered a single shot on target.

20 minutes into the second half, Slovenia coach Matjaz Kek had already introduced three substitutions, looking to overturn the dynamics of the game with Denmark continuing where they left off with regards to attacking threat.

Slovenia finally found an equaliser in the 77th minute with their only shot on target on the day.

Defender, Erik Janza found himself at the right place, smashing a half volley pass the Denmark goal with the help of a slight deflection from a Danish defender.

The sixth fixture of Euro 2024 also served as the first draw of the tournament, setting an awkward tone in Group C with England and Serbia set to meet later the evening.
