South Africa And Williams Dominates 2024 CAF Awards Nominations

South Africa has a strong presence in the nominations for the 2024 CAF Awards, which will be held in Morocco in December.
Ronwen Williams, the captain of Bafana Bafana, has been nominated for three awards: Goalkeeper of the Year, Player of the Year, and Club Player of the Year. His nominations are well-deserved after leading Bafana Bafana to a bronze medal finish at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.
For Goalkeeper of the Year, Williams faces competition from Stanley Nwabali of Chippa United and Nigeria, and Lionel Mpasi of DR Congo. Nwabali played a crucial role in Nigeria’s run to the AFCON semifinals, where they defeated Bafana Bafana before ultimately losing to hosts Ivory Coast. Manchester United and Cameroon goalkeeper André Onana is also a nominee.
In the Player of the Year category, Williams competes against Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong, fellow Nigerian Ademola Lookman, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, DR Congo’s captain Chancel Mbemba, and Burkina Faso’s Edmond Tapsoba.
For Club Player of the Year, Williams is up against Al Ahly duo Mustafa Shober and Hussen El Shahat, and Esperance’s Amanallah Memmiche.
Bafana Bafana is also nominated for National Team of the Year alongside Nigeria, Ivory Coast, DR Congo, Morocco, Angola, Mozambique, Sudan, Uganda, Burkina Faso, and Angola.
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is a nominee for Coach of the Year, alongside AFCON winners Emerse Fae of Ivory Coast, Angola’s Pedro Goncalves, and Sudan coach Kwesi Appiah.
South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns are nominated for Club of the Year after winning the inaugural Africa Football League (AFL) and reaching the CAF Champions League semifinals. Other nominees include Champions League winners Al Ahly, Simba SC, Zamalek, RS Berkane, Young Africans, TP Mazembe, Atletico Petroleos, and Dreams FC.
The winners of the 2024 CAF Awards will be announced on 16 December in Marrakech, Morocco.
