South African forward Jaisen Clifford is making significant strides in European football.

Currently, on loan at Bulgarian club Sportist Svoge from Etar Veliko Tarnovo, Clifford has established himself as a prolific goal-scorer, netting seven goals this season.

Born in Mpumalanga, Clifford’s reputation has risen considerably in recent months, attracting attention from top European clubs. With his contract at Etar Veliko Tarnovo expiring at the end of the season, Clifford is determined to finish strongly.

A product of SuperSport United’s youth academy, Clifford has enjoyed a diverse career, playing in Malta, Lithuania, and Armenia. His impressive performance in Lithuania helped FC Stumbras win the Lithuanian Cup in 2017—their first and only title—qualifying them for the 2018-2019 UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds, where they won a tie.

During Stumbras’s Lithuanian Cup victory, he played alongside former Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits winger Kgaogelo Sekgota. In 2021, Clifford had a stint at Cape Town All Stars before joining Van in Armenia, where he played for a couple of seasons before signing with Etar Veliko Tarnovo.

However, Clifford remains open to the possibility of playing in the Betway in the future.

Furthermore, as one of the most in-form South African forwards this season, Clifford has set his sights on receiving an international call-up for Bafana Bafana in this year’s COSAFA Cup.
