Stellenbosch Sign Ex-Chiefs On Loan
Stellenbosch has completed the deadline-day signing of former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom on a season-long loan from Indonesian Super League side Borneo Samarinda.
Blom is reuniting with his former coach Gavin Hunt in Cape Town.
Stellies finalized the loan deal on PSL transfer deadline day, securing the 26-year-old midfielder before the window closed.
Blom previously worked under Hunt during the coach’s spell at Kaizer Chiefs in the 2020/21 season. Chiefs later sold Blom to Major League Soccer club St. Louis City after the 2022/23 season had started, before bringing him back to Naturena on loan for the 2024/25 campaign.
Following his return to MLS, Blom parted ways with St. Louis before making a short-lived move to Indonesia.
“Stellenbosch Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Njabulo Blom on a season-long loan from Indonesian Super League side Borneo Samarinda,” the club said in an official statement.
“Formalities were concluded ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline. The twice-capped Bafana Bafana midfielder has arrived in Stellenbosch to spend the remainder of the season with the Maroons.”

Blom expressed enthusiasm about joining the Winelands side and working under familiar leadership again.
“I’m excited to be here and to start this journey in a new environment,” Blom said. “I’m looking forward to the challenge and building relationships with my new teammates. I will do my best to help the team and see what we can achieve together.
“Stellenbosch is a professional, well-run club. Players who have played here in the past enjoyed great success, so I felt this was the right environment for me to grow and play competitive football again. I know coach Gavin demands a lot from his players, and that will help me get back to my best.”
When Could Njabulo Blom Make His Stellenbosch Debut Against Kaizer Chiefs?
Blom will wear the No. 35 jersey this season—the same squad number he wore during his early rise at Naturena.
Stellies said Blom could make his debut against his former club when Stellenbosch host Kaizer Chiefs in a league encounter on Saturday, 17 October.
