Stellies Secures First CAF Confed Cup Victory With Late Titus Goal

Devin Titus breathed life into Stellenbosch’s CAF Confederation Cup campaign, scoring a dramatic 89th-minute winner against Desportivo Lunda-Sul at Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda on Sunday.

The South African side dominated the match but struggled to convert their chances, leaving them frustrated. However, in the dying moments, Fawaaz Basadien delivered a pinpoint cross, and Titus expertly headed home to secure Stellenbosch’s first victory in the group stage of the second-tier CAF club competition.

Stellenbosch should have been comfortably ahead, having squandered numerous opportunities. Jayden Adams struck the crossbar with a powerful shot, leaving goalkeeper Nayan Lima rooted to the spot. Sanele Barns was denied by a sprawling Lima, who also thwarted Ashley Cupido from close range.

Earlier, Titus himself had rattled the woodwork after a superb pass from Adams, a missed chance that would have proven costly had the match ended in a draw or a defeat.

As frustration grew, Basadien delivered a cross that evaded the defenders, and Titus, unmarked, powerfully headed the ball into the net, securing a crucial victory for Barker’s side. This was also their first goal in the group stage.

Stellenbosch entered this match with two consecutive defeats: 2-0 to Stade Malien and 3-0 to RS Berkane.

This victory propels Stellenbosch to third place in Group B, while Sul drops to the bottom of the table after three matches with only one point. Berkane leads the group with six points from two matches, followed by Malien with four points. These two sides will face each other later in Morocco.
