Sundowns To Depart On Sunday For FIFA Club World Cup

Mamelodi Sundowns has confirmed their departure tomorrow, Sunday, for the United States of America to participate in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
This expanded 32-team tournament, set to begin in just one week, will serve as a significant dress rehearsal for the USA, which will co-host the FIFA World Cup next year alongside Canada and Mexico.
“Kindly note that the team will depart on Sunday, 08 June 2025 from the OR Tambo International Airport to Bradenton – Florida (USA) in preparation for the FIFA Club World Cup. The players will be at ORTIA from 14:45,” Sundowns announced on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana, if a miracle occurs, have a strong chance of qualifying for next year’s FIFA World Cup as they currently lead their group.
With Sundowns contributing the majority of players to the national team, this tournament presents an ideal opportunity for Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos. The experience gained by these players in America will provide them with valuable insight into playing conditions in the host nation.
Sundowns, who narrowly missed winning the CAF Champions League last week, which would have secured their qualification for the 2029 edition, have been drawn in Group F of the Club World Cup.
Their tournament campaign kicks off in 10 days, on 18 June at 12:00, against Ulsan HD of Korea. They will then face German giants Borussia Dortmund on 21 June at 18:00, before concluding their group stage matches against Brazilian side Fluminense four days later at 21:00.
