Tau Issues Come-And-Get-Me Plea To PSL Clubs

Bafana Bafana vice-captain Percy Tau has issued a come-and-get-me plea to top Betway Premiership clubs, including Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, and Mamelodi Sundowns, as he is available on the market as a free agent.
The 31-year-old forward is free to join any club of his choice after Qatar Stars League outfit Qatar SC opted against renewing his contract, having signed for the Middle East team on a short-term deal from Egyptian giants Al Ahly in January.
With the Qataris, Tau managed to register four assists in nine league outings, helping the club to survive relegation. However, the club deemed his performance unsatisfactory, prompting the hierarchy to decide against triggering the two-year extension clause on his contract.
Now, with the Witbank native exploring options and back in his homeland, there have been swirling rumors about his next destination. The former Al Ahly star has constantly been linked to Amakhosi over the years, including before completing a move to Qatar.
Interestingly, the player has since confirmed that the Naturena-based outfit was his favorite team growing up, but insists the thought of donning the famous black and gold jersey is yet to cross his mind despite admitting he would be open to a move.
“No [playing for Chiefs hasn’t crossed my mind], but then if that situation were to happen, of course I would have to pay attention to it – where I have got no club and Chiefs says to me, ‘come’ ” Tau told Robert Marawa on MSW.
In addition to Chiefs, Tau opened the door for his boyhood club and reigning champions Sundowns, including the Buccaneers and a host of other South African top-flight clubs interested in his services, encouraging a bidding war.
“But then there are still other clubs in the PSL, I mean I have played for Sundowns, so I cannot write them off. It’s a team that I have played for, and I have won [trophies with]. I have got so much love for the team and the fans,” he added.
“So, if Sundowns were not to offer me a contract and Chiefs do, then okay, it’s not my fault, it will be theirs that I have gone to join Chiefs. But I will listen to anybody, it doesn’t rule out Orlando Pirates, or even Stellenbosch, SuperSport United, I will not rule out anyone.
“My decision will be based on who gives me a contract, of course Sundowns still have my love, but it will be based on who offers me a contract because at the end of the day I still have to support my family and I’m not going to stick around for the love I have for the club. I’m not going to take any offer, no.”
While the two-time CAF Champions League winner and 2022/23 CAF Inter-club player of the year is open to ply his trade in South Africa once again, there are several clubs in North Africa keen to acquire his experience and service ahead of next season.
