Tau Set To Leave Al Ahly For Qatar

South African international Percy Tau is set to leave Egyptian giants Al Ahly and will head to Qatar.

According to a Sportswire source in Egypt, there is significant interest from three Qatari clubs: Qatar SC, Al Arabi, and Al Khor.

These clubs are interested in acquiring Tau despite his contract with Al Ahly expiring in June.

While Al Ahly is keen to extend Tau’s contract and make him the highest-paid player on the African continent, reports suggest they are set to agree on a termination settlement with him for approximately R10 million, having rejected previous attempts to sell him.

Qatar SC is currently in the lead to sign the South African international.

It appears that Friday’s CAF Champions League group stage match against CR Belouizdad may have been Tau’s last game for the Egyptian giants, where he came on as a late substitute after Khanyisa Mayo’s club had already scored.

This comes despite his impressive performance in the previous match against Belouizdad in Cairo, where he scored and assisted a goal in a 6-1 victory.

Reports suggest that Tau did not always see eye-to-eye with current coach Marcelo Koller, who replaced Pitso Mosimane.

It was Mosimane who convinced Tau to leave the English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022, where he had featured in six matches and scored once. Limited game time was a significant factor in his decision to leave Brighton.

During his time with Al Ahly, Tau has won two league titles, four Egyptian Super Cups, two domestic cups, two CAF Champions League titles (including last season), and one CAF Super Cup. He has featured in 126 matches for the club, scoring 30 goals and providing 14 assists.
