The 22-Goal Wonderkid Ready To Ignite Sundowns’ Attack Next Season

Mamelodi Sundowns youngster Bennet Mokoena has revealed that he achieved one of the key goals he set for himself this season by earning promotion to the club’s first team, although he remains eager for more game time.
The talented striker enjoyed a remarkable campaign in the DStv Diski Challenge, finishing as the league’s top scorer with 22 goals in 26 matches.
Despite his prolific form at reserve level, Mokoena found first-team opportunities limited as he continued his development within the senior setup. Sundowns also narrowly missed out on the Reserve League title, which was won by Orlando Pirates.
The 19-year-old also produced one of the most memorable moments of his young career when he scored against Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in the Red Bull Diski Last Namba tournament.
Sundowns went on to secure an impressive 3-1 victory, with Mokoena’s goal playing a key role in the triumph.
“My goals were to get promoted to the first team, be an influential player and win the league with the team,” Mokoena told the club’s magazine.
“We did not win the league, but we scored the most goals and I am proud of that. I reached most of the targets I set for myself.”
The forward also reflected on the match that earned him a first-team call-up, recalling his outstanding performance against Durban City, where he scored four goals to underline his potential.
“That game changed everything. Scoring four goals and then getting a first-team call-up was unbelievable. It boosted my confidence and made me want to work even harder,” Mokoena said.
Despite his impressive season in the DStv Diski Challenge, Mokoena is determined to keep improving and establish himself in the senior side.
“I just want to keep improving, keep learning and hopefully get more first-team minutes. I want to enjoy my football and keep growing,” he added.
